The earliest the IRS will accept an e-file return is Jan 12, 2007. In my experience, it appears the IRS issues refund checks/direct deposits only on Fridays. That makes Friday, Jan 19, 2007 the earliest I expect they will issue any refunds. You do need your W-2, or at least all the information from the W-2 before you can fill. Your employer has until Jan 31 to mail your W-2.
