Because we find out we are not cut out to be parents of multiples and have the sense to see it.
Loneliness is brought on by the individual. Raise a happy child and loneliness will never be an issue !! If one is not happy by themselves then perhaps the trouble lies with the company they keep!

You sound as if a brother or sister is the only friend a person can have in life. Most siblings don't even like each other.
I chose to have one child because he is all I feel I can handle physically. When you add the 2nd and 3rd child, your time is divided. I know one woman who is a SAHM, but she had to put her 1st child in daycare in order to bond with her 2nd child.
I was an only child. I watched my friends with siblings share their parents' time. My parents always had time for me.
My mother has already passed away. I'm not lonely. When you grow up, you make your own relationships.
Besides, even if you have more than one child, there is no guarantee the kids will outlive the parents.

I am an only child, and yes in the beginning I did get lonely but I got over it. I enjoyed not having to share my belongings and getting what I wanted. I also have a daughter myself, who is a very happy child. She is never lonely because she has cousins that she plays with, as well godbrothers and godsisters, then she also has neighborhood friends. So from personal experience being an only child has its ups and downs, and just so u know their are many reasons that people chose to only have one child. My mom wanted three but something changed her mind.

Being an only child, I understand how it may be lonely and all, but with marriage and friends and children of our own, we can make it through. Plus, there are so many reasons. My dad was nearly forty when I was born and although they thought about having another child, we were too busy traveling back and forth between countries. It would be too hard. And also, women can become unable to have more children.

I have one daughter who is eleven years old. She was not planned but I do not believe in abortion so I had her. I would not give anything for her but I did not want children. I am not a child person. I see this world as cruel at times. I also feel that I can barely provide enough resources for her and having another might take some away from her.

The child will have plenty of other people to spend time with as an adult. Some people choose to have one child because that's all they can handle. Others, like me, choose not to have children at all because we can't handle ANY.
