I woke up one morning and when i looked at my parakeet, his left eye looked wet and glossy and the feathers around the eye looked wet and thin. He has trouble closing the eye in the day, but when he sleeps he seems fine. I have no idea what happened, but I think my other parakeet, an older female, might have done something to hurt him. Then again it could be an illness or something that got in his eye. If anyone has any idea what is wrong and what I should do, please respond. Thanks in advance.

Hi there. This presentation could be injury vs. infection. Most eye injuries are related to the cornea portion with increased tearing and heal on their own. An eye infection will require an antibiotic ointment or drops made for instillation in the eyes.Use your good judgment when deciding to go to the vet.Have a tweet Christmas.

It could be infection or perhaps he caught a draft, either way you must take him to the vet and until you get a proper diagnose you should take him away from the other parakeet in case it's contagious as you don't want both of your parakeets get ill.

If your keet has discharge from eye or beak you need to get him to an avian vet ASAP. Keep him hydrated (with an eyedropper if need be), change the water often, and get him to a vet. Birds won't "act sick" until they're about to die and this is a symptom you can't overlook. Usually female birds are agressive to other female birds, not usually to males.

This sounds very serious and you should take it to an avian certified vet right away. You can find one near you here: www.aav.org/vet-lookup Meanwhile, try to keep him warm and calm. This is really important that you take him to a vet asap!! good luck!

Take your bird to the vet....nothing better. Wait for a while. If it gets worse, you should take it to the vet.

Put your injured bird in the hospital cage, then take him to the vet.

If you don't have a vet, try http://aav.org/vet-lookup
