Canon has better low light shot quality, and more favourable reviews - comparatively.

The Canon's processor will also mean superfast processing from 'click' to 'displaying on your lcd'.

Looks like Canon has the upper hand - and this from a guy who owns, and enjoys, a Sony DSC-W5!

Reviews from Cnet suggest the Canon is also better. The reviews I've read on my camera (DSC-W5) are pretty spot on, hence I would trust what they say about the two options you've presented...

Canon is by far the better brand.

Read the reviews on www.dpreview.com. More people click on the Canon cameras than any other brand. I own a couple older Canon point and shoot cameras and have been very pleased with their quality and battery life. My only complaint has been that the processors in each was too slow, but the newer Canons have faster processors.

We have the SD600 and are very happy with it. Canon makes the best cameras. Plus SD memory is usually much cheaper than the Pro Duo.

It's interesting that this pair has come up a few times in the past week, but nobody matched them up prior to this. They are a pretty close match as far as specifications go.

Go to this page and click on "read owners opinions" for each camera and see what you think.

I'd say you need to just feel the SD600 and W50 in your hands and see which one is a better match for you.

Brand wise go with Canon...
Check out the SD600 from Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B000EMWBT2

At the time of posting.. it is $224 - with free shipping (no tax to most places). Here is a review... I just got one for the parents and they love it.

It's very small and it comes with 3x zoom. Don't go with Sony... trust me...

Canon. It's made by a camera company.

Sony put root-kits on their music cd's that install spyware on your PC. I hear that their batteries make good heaters though.
