If there are better ones please list them, then rate them on a scale of 1-10. And I am 15 years old doing a home perm. Should I get lye or No Lye? Which one is better.

i would recommend doing the one for children. to me it works just as well as the other ones and theres less risk because everything is included in the little kit thing. you should get no lye because it doesnt burn, but that can also be a bad thing because u might be tempted to leave it on longer than u should. if youre gonna do it at home have your mom apply it for you or a friend thats done it before to help u with hard spots and stuff. theres nothing worse than an ugly perm cuz your hair is still effed up and now its damaged too.

Lye is a better. It leave your hair straighter longer. Just have to take great care of your hair after you relax it.

Use either Revlon Realistic Relaxer or Dr. Miracles or Hawaiian Silky Relaxers. All rated 10!!!

Make sure you wrap up your hair up nightly with a scarf or roll it up nightly. don't use heated hair appliances to your hair. Apply a hair dressing to your hair at least twice a week. Use an Oil Sheen Hair Spray daily. Follow the instructions on the relaxer kit. When your doing the smoothing process, use the first four fingers and smooth the relaxer over and under each parted section. Then use the rest of the relaxer to the entire hair and smooth. I just smooth the relaxer all the way down to the ends and I do this a few times. Don't scratch your scalp prior to apply the relaxer, if you do, just apply a hair dressing to your scalp before doing the perm. Keep moisture added to your hair. Never let your hair become dry.

Have some help you do the back of your head.

They all contain some amount of lye in them and just like you I was lead to believe that there was a difference in them. Your best bet is to go to a licensed professional for a relaxer and they can recommend the best relaxer for your hair.
When I have done my own relaxers I always used Optimum regular. It leaves my hair soft, silky , and I didn't have a lot of breakage. So that's the best box relaxer that I have tried and the only one that I will use when doing one myself.
Good luck to ya...........and remember not to leave the relaxer on too long.....it will cause your hair to fall out.
