I have a short hair chihuahua. He sheds a bit, but not much. He's extremely intelligent. These little guys are so affectionate and they get very attached to their owners. You don't get much cuter than a chihuahua puppy. They really get a bad rap...once you own one you realize all the stereotypes are silly. On the other hand, they don't like to be left alone. They are extremely fragile, and need constant care. If you can handle that, then I really recommend one! :)

The only small dogs I really like are dacshunds. They are so adorable and so affectionate but they have way too many health issues! They're not really considered a small dog but I adore Shelties!!! They are extremely intelligent, barely shed if groomed properly, and very affectionate, great with kids.

Toy Australian Shepherd. I have a little girl. She's highly intelligent. Even though she's small she needs a job (Agility / Herding) to keep her from going stir crazy. She is very attentive but not at all neurotic like some herding breeds. She is the most affectionate dog I've ever known. She lives to cuddle. There are breeders that strive for a miniature/toy version of the standard Australian shepherd, they are athletic working dogs. There are also breeders that want something that is a breed in itself that end up looking kind of freaky in my opinion.

I have a 4 month old Bichonpoo. She is a mix. She is hypoallergenic, doesn't shed. Is highly intelligent, easily trainable. Very mellow and affectionate loves everyone and all other animals and is very, very cute. See her photo at left and on my 360.

they are all the best but a short hair one is easier to brush and easier to see parasites. like ticks and fleas
