A lot of what you are asking is personal preference. I am a dog groomer. I groom all types of Schnauzers....mini, stand and giant.
Given my personal experience, I prefer standard Schnauzers overall. The miniatures can be yappy and unpredictable (nippy). This, of course, depends on how much the owner spoils them and what they are allowed to get away with.
Standard Schnauzers seem to be more even keeled temperament wise and they appear to mature more quickly.
On the downside, they do not generally live as long as the miniatures.
Giants are interesting but too big for anywhere other than a large house with acreage.
All the Schnauzers I have known (all sizes) tend to be fairly healthy. SOme (miniatured mostly) can have skin issues and oily coats.
Hope this helps.
By the way...go to a reputable breeder if you want a purebred....don't trust pet stores...they usually have "puppymill" products and they are not guaranteed pure. Also...consider NOT having the ears cropped...they are SO MUCH CUTER.

Office work, I've noticed from ads in the paper, now most usually hopes for computer familiarity, and I've not noticed many willing to train. I think most will assume slowness with age, and you'll have a hard time finding office work for that reason. I'm 62 and disabled too. I don't recommend WalMart, as someone else did, since you need to make as much money as possible. I think what you're good at is where your money will come from, and you should run your own ad under Job Seekers in your paper or elsewhere. Craig's List would be an idea too, for running your ad. What are you good at? With your very good education, you could perhaps tutor after school, charging by the hour in your selected subjects, deciding whether in-home or at the child's/teen's home.

we have had three miniature schnauzers. One lived to be 13/14yrs old. One only 3 years (ate something in our neighbors compost pile). and the last one was 11 years old. The last one was the only one that had any health problems and she developed diabetes a few months before she died. She did go blind and the dm was not controlled. We found all three to be excellent pets, not yappy and did not shed. I will probably get another after my heart heals; it has been a few months since we lost our last one.

All purebreds have know medical problems which can and will be expensive. Before you invest your money and your heart... investigate maintenance cost of owning this type of dog.
Can you afford veterinary care on a regular basis?
Miniatures are even weaker in body, also more fragile "emotionally".

Standards are healthier and calmer. Minis tend to have bad skin, allergies, obesity, and to be very hyper. Standards are less prone to all of the above.
