My 6 year old son has always been getting in and out of things as well as bullying since the age of 1. However it has now gotten to the point at school academically he is beyond 1st grade but socially he disturbs others in class, bullies others during recess & does stuff like cut his hair because he wants to look cool & I won't cut his hair because it is too cold here during winter then loses hats once purchased, erases notes sent home from the teacher... to the point where the teacher & I are now talking daily about him. This I believe is only happening due to parental role change in work.. I am @ home ( biological mom) & other mom is trucker....but it is no telling...This is a long established role we've been 2gether for 6 yrs..Now questioning if he really does have an attention defecite (u know) disorder & whether or not to treat (usually medicine which I fear!) or just counsel & this will all just phase out & he will grow out of it? Thanks guys I am new here....

I have 4 children who all suffer from ADD or that's what the teachers and docs said.I refused to put any of them on meds two are in college and the other two are honor roll kids. It is time to stop doping our kids. And start allowing for a little freedom of thought. Normal 6 year olds are supposed to be a pain in the @ss.

Well if he is doing well academically but not socially i dont think its A.D.D. Attention deficit disorder is generally when a child doesnt have a well defined attention span. He wouldnt be doing so well at school work because he wouldnt be able to focus on it for long enough and would act up in class. It actually sounds like he is too intelligent for the class he is in. He may need a bigger academic challenge. Take him to a counselor or doctor and have a preliminary A.D.D test. If he can sit down and do something for a period of time then,no he doesnt have A.D.D. Dont worry so much he is only six and they always push boundaries in fact he will probably push for the next 12 years. Treatment for A.D.D ranges from diet control to medication there are plenty of alternatives for pills so check them out and implement some anyway and see if this makes a difference. Good luck. Check out some web sites and see what they offer by way of natural remedies.

I would have him tested. He does not seem to have the typical ADD or ADHD symptoms but it can present differently in each child. Another thing it might be is Oppositional Defiance Disorder. These conditions all have a lot in common.

It is always better to test early rather than wait. Having a physician rule out ADD now is better than waiting until the child is in serious trouble. Also, not every child with ADD is medicated. There are other treatment options.

ADD is a completely bogus condition which was invented to make room for the drugging of normal children to make them more docile and easily brainwashed.

Children were never designed to be regimented and it's truly doing them violence to be stuck in school. The children with a sense of who they are rebel at their mistreatment. The docile ones go along and learn to be good little sheep and consumers.

Your son is behaving the way he is because he's sensing the violent nature of the system he's trapped in.

I would take your son to your family physician and discuss what has been going on with him behaviorally and socially. Not knowing him or your situation personally, it would be hard to say if he has ADD or ADHD or ODD. I would also talk with the school about what they would suggest as far as helping him; maybe meeting with the school counselor or your school may suggest a meeting with the teacher and several other staff members to discuss the situation, as was done in our case.

In terms of just letting him grow out of it or looking at this behavior as "normal," just imagine what will happen if you allow this to continue. Your son risks being labeled by his peers and teachers as being a 'bad' kid, and eventually he may get kicked out of school for his behavior. Plus, as our teacher pointed out, even if he is really smart and can do well academically, his behavior problems affect everything, so it will begin to interfere with his school work if it hasn't already. Good luck to you and your family!

Change in family structure, harder school work, stress from teachers, being a boy, all of these things factor in. These schools are so fast to ADD our kids now a days, it's scarey. I can't believe they are so lazy and incapable of handeling active, bored little kids today, that they want us to test them so they can be drugged. What ever happened to the teachers of our ages, that actually taught from the heart and not the book. I did this with my oldest son, take him to a Child Psycologist. Then have them send a statement to his school telling them he is NORMAL. They will never bother you again. Also, you will learn how to deal with his behavior and teach him to deal also. Take care and Have Happy Holidays.

it could be many things. Some kids are just hyper I think. But the only way to know for yourself a peace of mind is to have him tested.Maybe he is acting out for some reason.I have the same problem, my boys are so rambunctious and it's hard to explain to others that is just when they are.I often blame myself for the way my boys act out.But I have to ration with myself because deep down I know I am doing all I can for them. I bet you have the same concerns.I have heard that medicines for ADD can work but the kids act so solemn and sober faced without much reaction. But on the positive side, I have seen kids in my family it has truly made a difference in.It's up to you and how your child reacts to the medicine if it is worth it for him.Just an opinion.
Good luck. hope all goes well with you and your son.Glad to know I am not the only parent struggling to tame my kids.

At six years old, children are suddenly thrust into a world of "cool kids" and bullying, and it can be tough to survive - especially if the kid has loving parents, which you certainly sound to be. It is possible it is a phase, though. I would wait a few years.

Forget the test, your child is a normal child and not a minature grownup.
Give your child activities at home like paper and pens and crafts and teach him to read or get him involved on internet games.
Forget the ADD crap and medicine will only make kid worser.
