Usually its just my daughter and my son here and they play mutual sex games...i.e board games, riding bikes, jumping on the trampoline, etc. My step daughter is here with us for 2 weeks and she is more girlie than my daughter so the girls are going off to play barbies and house which leaves my son playing by himself and he feels hurt and left out . How do I get them to include him and play something they are all interested in without hampering the girls fun? BTW I have a newborn who requires most of my attention (colic) and can't sit down myself for very long to play with my son while the girls are doing their own thing...AND the hubby is deployed to IRAQ so he cant help out either. PLEASE give me your SERIOUS suggestions.

Bring out some match box cars. I don't know a girl that won't play with them. See if your son could build house with legos for the Barbies.

Good luck with your new baby!

When I was a kid, I had the opposite problem.

I was a girl with two brothers who made a secret fort without me, wanted to play tackle football, etc.

You find, as you mentioned, a genderly mutual game. Tag, whatever, they are all games both genders thoroughly enjoy.

Depending on the age of the children getting, the more girly one to participate might br more difficult.

You might have to re-reoute the game, and maybe the girls will be a little upset, but once they start playing a game they all like, they'll completely forget.

It will be hard to find that game, but make suggestions to the kids until something works.

Good luck!

Painting, legos, and other artsy/craftsy types of things are usually good. Try getting them to make holiday decorations, write letters to Santa, cut out paper snowflakes, etc.

get in touch with your base's spouse support group. find another family who has little boy(s) who can spend some time with your son while your stepdaughter is there. also it might be helpful to have other women/men who's hubbies/wives are deployed to talk to about everything.

hmm...let themplay something like tag. or better yet you could let the girls still play like house, but let the boy like make the houses for the barbie, or you could let him use the computer...

let him play barbies too, it will not hurt, he can dress a barbie or get men barbies.
Let him get on the computer and play games on it.
