Bars in Burlington are much cheaper than NYC.
Establishments in NYC pay huge prices for Liquor Licenses, Rent etc. Liquor stores in Vt are usually cheaper than NYC due to Tax levels. But beer can often be cheaper in NY stores due to Wholesalers giving discounts that are not allowed in VT.

I would still go to the NYC interview, since you can decline any offer if you choose. Burlington is a very clean and much cheaper city to live in, it has lots to do. NYC has an endless supply of things to do and see, but the cost to live there is extremely high. I live about 90 minutes from midtown Manhattan, so I can visit the city any time I want without the traffic & expense of the city itself. I prefer a smaller quiet place to live. Only you can decide what is best for yourself.

Just a guess, but I would say yes because everything is more expensive in NC.. A combo of high rents, overhead, taxes and demand.
