you cant get black highlights. you can only highlight with a color thats lighter than the rest of the hair. you can get black streaks, but in brown hair they wont show up that well unless you do them thick. i havent seen it done before. ive only seen the top half of the head brown and the under part of the head black, it didnt look too weird, but that all depends on the persons perspective.

When they are darker than your base color, they're called low-lights. Black will probably look way too harsh, but a very dark chocolate brown (which is very close to black, but much more natural looking) will look amazing on light brown hair. I just did low-lights in dark chocolate brown on my little sister and she has light brown hair--it looks SOOOOOO good. Just make sure you go to a trusted stylist or you'll end up with a big mess that's not easy to fix. Good luck.

Personally i think it looks cheesy, and think you should always go lighter when you are doing highlights. They are called that because you are putting highlights to your hair. I think if you want a change, a better look would be to try going all black, its become quite popular these days and I think it looks really good if your features can handle it.

I think that a really dark brown would be good. I think black wouldn't look that good with light brown hair. I think the dark brown would look good and anyways dark brown looks like black right when you get it done.

i don't think black highlights would look that good in light brown hair! it wouldn't look to bad but a dark brown or blonde(not to bright) would look awesome!

That's not a highlight..more of a contrast. If done the right way it could look really nice.

they are called lowlites when you dye darker and highlites when you dye lighter. I don't think that black would look very good, a brunette color would look better i think.
