I am not making fun. I am a Baptist and we do not believe in this. But I do want to answer you in a respectful way. I have a cousin who attends a charismatic church and her husband believes. She however was raised baptist and has never spoken in tounges. She has been urged by members of her church to "do it".
My understanding of this belief is that the Holy Spirit enters you and you become so attuned to Its presence that you begin to uncontrollably speak the tounge of Heaven. If this is not true please correct me, but if it is then how can you encourage someone to do it? And if it is the language of God why does everyone doing it sound different. And why does it seem to happen only to some and then in groups where it happens to more than one?
If it is a purposeful demonstration of faith like raising your hand to God then fine, how you worship is your choice. Many in my church raise their hand, I do on occasion. I would just caution those who would do it to fit in or because someone else feels it is appropriate, To me that would be a kind of false worship.
However, no matter what my belief or that of anyone else, your belief should not be mocked. Especially by other believers. It only weakens the church. And a divided house is easily conquered. We are all...Baptist, Methodist, Church of Christ, Catholic, Christian non denominational, Christian Science, Church of the Nazarene, etc...part of the body of Christ and we should not disrespect or attack one another based on small differences in our beliefs.
As for atheists and agnostics, if you attack them how would you ever get them to listen to you? Are you loving them as you should? Allow them their behavior and their choices and their beliefs. Answer questions intellegently and behave as YOU should, because we too will answer for our behavior. Not for our sins because those have been forgiven but for those we have caused to remain lost because of our behavior.
Blessings

What do you want to know, dear? All I can give you are Biblical references. I go to a full gospel church - modern Pentecostal, and people speak in tongues all the time. There are different 'degrees' of tongues. There is tongues and interpretation, which is when someone is filled with the Holy Ghost, and gives a message in tongues, and then a translation will always follow, if it is genuine. Then there is utterings in the Spirit, where people cry out to God in prayer in other tongues. These utterings are for God only, and no interpretation will be given. There is also stammering lips, which one has no control over when the Holy Ghost fills you. These sound like no language, only sounds. I am sure some are genuine. Maybe not all, but you MUST be careful about saying that something such as that is not of God, because you are risking the sin of blasphemy of the Holy Ghost, which will not be forgiven. Look in Acts, chapter 2. If you have a reference Bible, it will refer you to other places . The things I described to you are things that I have experienced in church, not things that I have heard about. And what you said about having to answer for what you say about God? Men will be held accountable for EVERY idle word that proceeds out of their mouth!

I consider God nonetheless indicates individuals matters (prophesy) and I consider there are individuals who talk in tongues (languages) whilst beneath the have an impact on of the Holy Spirit. The main issue I have along with your mom, from what you let us know, is that she brags approximately those matters. Pride is a sin. And she sounds prideful or potentially she demands concentration, I have no idea. If she is studying your diary and looking you in church (while she must be targeting worshiping God) then she could also be flawed and manipulative. Speaking in tongues and prophesy/visions had been probably the most presents of the Spirit Jesus promised we might have. Unfortunately, those matters were misused by means of individuals till they've a terrible connotation for such a lot individuals. But there are the ones with natural explanations and hearts nearly God who nonetheless have those presents!! Thank God for that....((Hugs))

The term 'speaking in tongues' refers to glossolalia. It is not a genuine spiritual phenomenon, but rather a trance-like state in which there is decreased activity in the language centers of the brain and increased activity in the emotional centers.
"The syllables that make up instances of glossolalia typically appear to be unpatterned reorganizations of phonemes from the primary language of the person uttering the syllables; thus, the glossolalia of people from Russia, the United Kingdom, and Brazil all sound quite different from each other, but vaguely resemble the Russian, English, and Portuguese languages, respectively. Many linguists generally regard most glossolalia as lacking any identifiable semantics, syntax, or morphology."

Apostrophes are not for simple plurals. Capital letters go at the beginning of sentences. If I were you, I'd spend less time in church and more time in English class, not to mention less time on YA threatening people with ridiculous religious rants.
Read what 'Michael' wrote and learn something. Speaking in tongues is fake. If you "have it" you had better see a doctor.

Talking in tongues was supposed to be a gift from god to speak in another language.
Not the stuff ppl claim their doing, they're either self-deluded or are trying to fraud ppl or a little of both (which is possible).
(Just don't want you to get brainwashed by frauds and turn into a blathing nutcase : )

Tongues was a TEMPORARY gift with a specific purpose suited to THAT TIME. It was not the ecstatic utterances of the modern Pentecostal movement, but LANGUAGES spoken in different parts of the world.
1Co 13:8 Love never fails. But prophecy will pass away. Speaking in languages that had not been known before will end. And knowledge will pass away.
1Co 13:9 What we know now is not complete. What we prophesy now is not perfect.
1Co 13:10 But when what is perfect comes, the things that are not perfect will pass away.

I have honestly spoken in a foreign language that I have never heard of before. It is appears to be reminscient of Inuit in respects, but there are several differences in it. I can not consciously decipher this language, but when the urge hits me, I can think of what I wish to say in English and it comes out in this mysterious language.
I don't know if that qualifies as "speaking in tongues" or not, but it is a metaphysical possibility.

My wifes girlfriend has a grown up daughter who does that. I don't know much about the details but I do know she is extremely religious and that her father would freak out and get out of the house whenever she would do it.

No, my knee will not bow. I attended a Pentecostal church for quite awhile. I saw those fanatics speaking in their gibberish. It is fake. Doesn't it say, "speaking in tongues unfamiliar to themselves"? You tell me, is "da da da de de dede da deded ad da da da" a language? Maybe an ancient baby language, but not an adult dialect.
