The color of bowel movements can be affected by many things and still be normal. For example:
black, but not tarry - taking iron supplements
green - eating food with food coloring, iron products
dark green - eating spinach
yellowish orange - certain vitamins
red, but not bloody - eating tomato products, food with food coloring
clayish - from antacids
Certain medications will also change the color of your stool.

You should see a doctor are if your movements are tarry black, maroon or obviously bright red. Tarry and black is a sign of internal bleeding. The bright red or maroon color is obviously a sign of bleeding.

As always, if in doubt, see a doctor! It is always better to be safe than to be sorry.
