It's not painful, the worse part of it is keeping your mouth open for a long period of time, while they do the root canal. The shot hurts just a little bit, they put some numbing medicine on the injection site before giving the actual shot, helps a lot.

I don't know who you talked to. Good Lord, did my root canal hurt! Maybe I went to the wrong guy, but my parents have also had root canals and theirs really hurt, too. My jaw was so sore from that dentist drilling and shoving those poky needle-things (looked kinda like fishhooks) in my roots...I could barely open my jaw for a week.
Not to freak you out or whatever...but I think somebody's pulling your leg. The root canal doesn't really hurt while you're anesthetized, no. You'll be numb and it'll feel weird, like, a lot of pressure and drooling and all, but it won't hurt.
It'll hurt afterwards, though. Get an ice pack, get good meds, and prepare for some serious soreness after the numbness wears off.
The injection is the least of your problems. But really, at least you won't have the surprise of all the pain to scare you if you know about it ahead of time. You'll be a little better prepared if you know the pain's coming. Go get the root canal and join the rest of us.

The pain of the injection is more psychological than physical. If you can stand an arm injection, you can stand this. I had a root canal, and I can report that it is more just aggravating and stressful, than really painful. I found it a hassle to have to do it in 3 trips: the root canal, the mold-taking for the crown, and the crown fitting. I HATE going to the dentist, and this was enough to tide me over for a while.
I think you'll be fine. I'm squeamish and have a low pain threshold most times, and I did okay.

The injection like most hurts but the pain is quick, not much to complain about! The root canal for some reason bothered me. I had discomfort both times(2 root canals) same pain. Yet I had wisdom teeth pulled fully awake and I felt fine. The root canals take a lot longer, they go in farther and have alot of work to do, that is probably the reason. Ask your dentist what his specialty is, if it's not root canal see a specialist. They tend to work quicker making it a lot easier for the patient. Everyone is different, you may be fine! My friend got his wisdom teeth pulled and wanted to kick my a-- for telling him it was easy. It all depends on your sensitivity.

The injection isn't bad at all, never had a root canal, but had impacted wisdom teeth removed, and the injection didnt' hurt, and neither did the rest. Some will put you out totally if you go to a surgical dentist office that provides it. It's not suppossed to be painful as much as uncompfortable sitting there, and hurting after, they give ya stuff to help that too though. Better to get it now than if it gets a lot worse.

A root canal is painful, but its mostly uncomfortable. In some ways it fells like you have meet stuck in your tooth. lol. On a scale from 1-10 (10 being the worst) it was about a 7 for me at the start but then is was about a 4 for the next few days. As i say its more uncomfortable than painful. Dont worry it wil be fine.x

My root canal was worse than childbirth!!!!
I was miserable. They injected me three times and still couldn't get me numb enough. And then the SOB told me it appears that it didn't take! Did you know a root canal could not "take"? Oh heavenly father save me from the devil that is known as dentist!!!!!!!!!!
But don't be scared sweetie, I'm sure yours will be just fine.

The only pain I felt was the first injection that I received in the roof of my mouth. It was painful enough to make me say ****, but by the time I could feel the acknowledge the pain the medicine had already kicked in.

No it is not painful while it is being done. The injection is slightly painful as all other shots but it is nothing you can't stand. If you try to remain calm, as best as you can, things will go well for you.

They can be painful. If they offer antibiotic take it. This will cut down on the infection, and the pain. any time you have something cut out of you its going to hurt. Some more than others.
