Columbia Crest Merlot costs about $15 and may be available. Stag's Leap Hawk Crest Cabernet Sauvignon has a wide distribution and is great buy at only $15 as well.

Reliable brands:
Estancia, Clos Du Bois, Geyser Peak, Rodney Strong, Mondavi, Columbia Crest, Chateau Souverain...that should be a good start. Lately I have been digging the Alexander Valley Cab from Souverain, I have blind tasted clients that think it is 5 times the cost.

Here's the test. The deeper the pit on the bottom of the bottle, the more likely the wine is quality. Try one from Oregon. I think they sell Willamette Vineyards all over. That's the wine they used on the set of Friends.
