It's so easy you'll be surprised!! I see it everyday. Here's how it goes where I work and I'm sure it will be similar where you're going.
If you have separators that means they are going to fit bands on your teeth. Bands are like little silver rings that fit all the way around your molars. It doesn't hurt. It might feel weird because the assistant will have to shape it to the tooth. Then you'll probably get your teeth brushed and you'll end up with some little cheek spreaders on. Those are used to keep your lips and your cheeks away from your teeth. The assistant will be brushing (with little paint brush looking thingies) some stuff on your teeth and once that is on there, the goal is to keep saliva off of your teeth. They'll brush 2 or 3 different things on your teeth to get the surface ready for your brackets and then the Dr. will come over and simply place the brackets on your teeth. Then he'll use a little blue light to harden the glue that will hold the brackets on. Once your brackets are on they'll place a wire in and then you'll either get to pick colors to go around the brackets or these days some brackets have gates that close to hold the wire in. The wire is going to start moving your teeth and this movement is what makes you sore. Just take some Tylenol or whatever you take for headaches and that should help. You'll do great. Don't be scared it's soooo easy!

It depends on the person, really.
I didn't mind braces. I actually liked them. At my orthodontist we got cool colors for the bands, which was neat.
They hurt, I won't deny that. It's not terrible, but it is annoying. It can be hard to eat right after they get tightened, especially if your front teeth are being moved a lot.
Usually, I just fell asleep after each appointment, until they stopped hurting. (That's another thing: At first, they tighten the braces and maybe add springs or rubber bands. It depends on your teeth, of course. Later they don't because they're just there until your teeth are set enough so they won't move much when they get taken off).
Getting the 4 bands on your molars was the worst part. They're these metal things that go around your molars to anchor in the wire. They have to make sure they fit by trying on one or two per molar. Look at it this way: when our parents were kids, braces were ALL bands.
All in all, though, I liked having braces and I'm really, really happy with the results. I would have not wanted to go through life with my teeth the way they used to be!

Well, I've handiest had braces for four months, so i are not able to fake to be this BIG trained or whatever. Getting the braces on itself does not relatively harm; it is after part an hour or in order that you relatively begin to suppose the stress/anguish...the moment day is the worst. The 3rd and fourth days are OK, and via the 5th day, you'll be able to have it down!! It could take approximately one million-two weeks (approx.) to get used to the braces. Make certain to inventory up on a LOOOOT of tender meals; you'll be able to want them, believe me! Take ibuprofen; it is helping A TON. You can nonetheless drink nutrition pop however it is actual, noo popcorn :(:(:(!!! And no different tough, chewy, and so forth....urgh . Braces suck, however you can also as good put on the rubber bands and stuff to get them off prior and get cool colours to have a laugh with them! The anguish for the duration of the primary few days is going like this, BTW: (on a scale of one million to ten---10 being the maximum) 1st day: approximately a 6, 7, or eight 2d day: a nine or 10! third day: four or five Decreases from there.. And do not fear, getting braces is truthfully now not as horrifying as it sort of feels! :) Best of success! ~Leagurl_96_??

i got braces last in 2005, and I thought they would be awful. But actually, they're not that bad. They hurt when you get them on, but if you want pain meds, aleve seems the best, personally. Take one in the morning before school and another at dinner before you eat. That's what I do. And bring music when they're tightened (small headphones like iPod work best, don't get in the way) because it gets pretty boring. Also, brush good, and if you have pop, I tend to rinse my mouth with water afterwards. Good luck. But physically, nothing other than a sore mouth. Mentally, you feel a little different. But, everyone has braces these days, so no one looks twice at you, trust me. good luck! Oh, one more thing, I try to make them fun by getting bands in colors the go with the season (red and green now, summer is red, white, and blue, spring is blue, pink, and light yellow). Makes it a little more fun. Oh, and the little pointy brush (proxibrush) will very quickly become your best friend! Wishing you all the luck in the world! Bye! And be relaxed, get a before and after picture, make it a semi big deal! Again, good luck, and be cool! Bye!

If you're at an age where most people are getting braces, it shouldn't affect you much mentally. It can hurt and make your mouth sore for a while, but the straight teeth at the end are worth it!

I had braces for 6 years and hated every second of it. They hurt to get on, off and when they are tightened or the rubberbands are changed. Brushing your teeth will be a pain in the butt and all your dentists will constantly be telling you that you are not brushing good enough. But if you don't brush atleast 2 minutes every day you can get gingivitis and yout gums will get infected and swollen. That's what happened to me and 6 months after getting my braces off, my gums are still swollen from the stupid gum infections. I also hated the way I looked and felt really ugly but my teetth were really, really crooked. The only advice I have for you, is to not worry and for about a week after you get them on, and when rubberbands are changed, eat only really soft foods that don't have to be chewed much to swallow.

Its not that bad good luck

I had braces before. They hurt for the first couple of days that they were on and then they were fine. It tended to be sore for a couple hours after getting them tightened as well.
Don't be worried about it. So many people get braces and the end results are worth it!!

I had braces and they hurt like hell, especially when I had to go in periodically and have them tightened.
I can only hope they've improved things in the last couple of decades.
Brushing your teeth is going to be a big pain in the butt.
But the straight teeth you'll have makes it all worth it, believe me.
