Because there's a book about it? Thousands of books about alien presence on earth have been written, do we necessarily think it's absolute truth?

If I had absolute "faith" that I can't under any circumstances walk under a ladder, even if there are no evidence of anything happening to me if I did, does it make it true that the ladder is bad luck?

Is it because of the number of people that believe in it ("so many people can't possibly be wrong!!"? A big number of people staunchly believing in something that has no scientific data or even probability doesn't necessarely make it true or right, otherwise people were right to burn the "Witches of Salem" or even something like the Holocaust is right by the sheer number of people that believed that Jews were the devil.....

faith is the ultimate excuse for being lazy and not ever asking why... they just say faith and don't think twice about it. The Bible = The canterbury tales... great book, good lessons on life, but don't take it literally. Do you know how Christians think they are the right ones? Well, every other religion thinks they are right too... from the depths of their hearts they do! I can't say I know what happens when we die, but the most logical explanation is when we die, there is a process and the brain is deprived of oxygenated blood , tissue starts to die, we become unconcious and start dreaming (like you do when you pass out) eventually all the color in your dream fades away, you're brain dead.. you're dead.. lights out. nothingness. It's sad to think of it that way...who knows, this universe is so complex ...there could be other dimensions of energy, but that sounds far-fetched.. anyway. i'm going off on a tangent.

I think the line is drawn because of connectivity. If we want to know where everything came from, it makes sense to think of a creator. It's by no means the only possible solution, but it is connected to the original question. Everything in religion seems to stem off of the basic questions.

On the other hand, the action of breaking a mirror is by no means connected to having bad luck, unless you step on the fragments. Throwing salt over your shoulder isn't connected with anything either.

Here are some examples of miraculous restoration of limbs. These are very rare--similar to bilocation and raising the dead--and have only been worked by the greatest of saints.

St. John Chrysostom's,hand was lost. Through his prayer and the intercession of the blessed virgin it is restored. That miraculous hand over 1700 years later is to this day incorruptible while the rest of his body was not (his tongue may be too, I forget ). See here:
