Shakthi means the Femine aspect of God -the Annotation is Brahmam is "Inactive"(Niraaakaram)-the force that activates the Brahmam is the Femenine aspect,(for creation/protection etc of the Universe) which is Shakthi(Energy).Hindus accept that there is 50%Masculine and 50%Feminine aspect in GOD(Ardha Naari) and do not react like a bull seeing a red cloth,if one says GOD is Femenine, as is the case in certain Religions mostly widespread in Western countries. If any Religious Preist(including the Indian Preist of predominent Western Religion) tells in that "GOD is not having the Femenine aspect"-he/she will be throttled by Women Associations of India(very powerful) -as was the case of Puri Sankaracharya who told women should not study Vedam and the poor man had his day!!--Parvathi is one of 1000 names of Shakthi

i could be wrong, but i believe that Parvati is a deity, the wife of Shiva
and Shakti means power, and is sometimes used to represent the Divine Mother
here this is better:
Shakti meaning force, power or energy is the Hindu personification of God as the Divine Mother. Shakti represents the active, dynamic principles of feminine power. In Shaktism, Shakti is worshiped as the Supreme Being. Alternatively, in other Hindu traditions, Shakti embodies the active energy and power of male deities, such as Vishnu or Shiva. Shakti is also commonly seen as a companion to a male God, such as the Vaishnavite sect, God's power or Shakti is Lakshmi, while for the Shaivite sect, God's power is Parvati.
