Don't worry too much about it. Most people understand that you have a baby--especially if it's obvious that you're trying, smile and apoligize. Make sure you bring favorite toys and other diversions for her, and don't pay too much attention to it. Giving it too much attention can lead to repeat behavior (hey, I can make dad turn PURPLE when I do this--COOL!). What sometimes works with my son is to whisper to him. He whispers back--it's so funny!

I am a teacher and a parent and I know that this is normal behavior. Babies love to hear the sound of their own voice. When they are in a noisy place, they will yell even louder. For them, it is a source of great entertainment. And I have found that most other people around a yelling baby will inwardly smile because they have probably experienced this situation in their family. The only thing that you can do about it is to bring something that will distract her from doing this.
The most important thing to remember is to not say anything to her that will make her feel that what she is doing is bad.

Do nothing. She is expanding her lungs, learning to use her voice and at times, probably just hollering for the sake of it. Happy baby noises are fun, and while they annoy some people, if you "fun along" with her, they realize she's just being loud about being happy. If you are being silly while she is hollering, they will know she's just laughing and being happy. As far as airplanes, just tell the passengers in your immediate vicinity that your baby gets loud when she gets excited, and "apologize" in advance if she bothers them. She will grow out of this phase way too soon, so make sure you get some of it on video.

It's totally normal and people around have had kids and should know that this is just how it is. Ignore the sideways looks and if anyone comments just say "what you never had kids before?"
Think about it, what could you possibly do to a 1 yr old for yelling -nothing! So everyone just has to bare with and actually the more you ignore it the less she will do it.

My sons do/did this also. They discover the echo and think it's cool! They also like the reaction they get from Mom, Dad, etc. Finally my oldest is understanding that this behavior is unacceptable in public, he is almost 5. I just think it's a stage they all go through.

This is a perfectly normal behavior. But you can try to incorporate her "indoor" voice to daily routines. teaching her that we talk softly inside when outside we can talk very loudly. to start teaching the difference try standing by a door that leads to the outdoors. Start by telling her we use our indoor voice inside while talking softly. Then step out the door and do the same with a loud voice. Do this while going to stores and other places so she knows indoor voices dont just mean at home.Beforegoing into the store say time to hurry up and use your outdoor voice we are going inside and need to use our indoor voice. She will most definately forget to keep the indoor voice so just simple remind her inddor voice please. I started doing this with my daughter just before her first birthday, but now she is 2 and this was the best thing we ever started, but as soon as shes outside let the outdoor voice begin! This is not an effective overnight solution especially at your daughters age catches on it will help in the future.
