My husband and I didn't have a "real" wedding. We were married at the court house by a Justice of the Peace. We don't want to have a "wedding" exactly, but on our 5th anniversary, we would like to invite our families to a renewal of vows. Nothing huge, no gifts or anything- just a small candlelit service at a chapel. Would this be in poor taste? I'm afraid our 5th year anniversary is too soon..

If you signed a marriage license; your marriage was real.

If you want to take vows to one another and/or with God; that's another story.

Good luck

Getting married by a justice of the peace is just as real as a church wedding..The vows are the same..
I was married by a justice of the peace 31 years ago and we plan to renew our vows on our 50th wedding anniversary,God willing.
I may have to use a walker to get down the isle, and ask the old man next to me who he is,but I'll be there. LOL

this is totally acceptable and not in poor taste at all. the only thing I think that would make it in poor taste is if you wer wanting people that already gave you a gift to give you a second gift...which you clearly are not. whenever I wonder about something like this I ask myself if my friend or relative didn't have a big wedding and I didn't see them get married and then had a celebratory party for their fifth and renewed their vows...would I like to go??? Of course!!! I think you;'re friends and family woudl feel the same way....good luck.

No - this is a lovely idea and I am sure your family will appreciate the sentiment and be more than happy to share in such a lovely moment. Good Luck!
