I have documents that i can use for other purposes but the dates & addresses are incorrect.
if i can scan & just alter the dates it will save me having to type it all up wiv me phat phingas!!!

If you have a scanner it will almost certaily have been supplied with some OCR software, albeit a poor version, try using that.

If you don't have a scanner then pop down to your local pc store and have a word with them

You need to use OCR software (Optical Character Recognition)

The software equates pattern recognition of most standard character fonts and generates a text file. Accuracy is not 100% and need to be proof read.

Look for software called OCR or optical character recognition, it usually ships with all printers.
