I would have to say California or Texas. I live in southern California pretty much on the border and did for 2 years in Texas, and I am sure illegal immgration has a great deal to do with it, not to mention drug smuggling that comes from Mexico.
But also note most crimes in these areas go left unreported because illegal immigrants don't want to risk getting sent back.
New reports show that St Louis is the most dangerous city in 2006. I believe it said crime rose 19%. Atlanta seems to be a very hot spot for new drug crimes. Of course, everyone needs to keep Miami and Chicago in mind as well.
A bit more specific would help, are you looking for violent crimes? Or crimes including speeding and basic driving violations? Are you looking for crime per capita or just crime per state no matter the population. So much of this infomation is available from the Census Bureau and state government agencies.

Actually, South Carolina had the most violent crimes per 100,000 residents in 2005 (at around 700+). California came in around 525, and New York at 440.
But it's nearly impossible to say which state had the most crime as you have to define what type of crime (violent, non-violent, etc.) as well as stating by total number of crimes, or highest crime rate.

Washington DC has the most violent crime in the entire USA.
Of course, that has nothing to do with the fact that nobody except the police (and criminals) can have guns.
Boy, I'll bet that just keeps Sarah Brady up at night.

LOL...I live in California and even though everyone thinks it's CA, I'm pretty sure it isn't. I'm going to have to go with New York just because it has a high population rate and with all the things going on recently, like 9/11, it's the best guess.
:) hope that helps

I'm gonna take a guess and say Michigan. They have Detroit. I live right across the border from Detroit and EVERYDAY on the news I hear about people getting shot and B&Es, etc.
