Here is my symptoms can you see if you can figure out my problem? I failed my freshman year in high school, I got to college and I said I was not going to make the same mistake. Got there and sort of took advantage of my freedom. I barely went to class because I never really learned I usually would have to take the book and learn it on my own. I would wait to the last minute to do stuff because I liked the adrenaline rush and simply because the material would be fresh on my mind if I were to study like a day before the test. But doing it this way caused me to fail even though I felt confident that I wouldnt. And when I try to start studying early I never can because it bores me and I usually wind up doing something else. I try to change but I can't. I need any help I can get to change this because I don't want to be a failure and let my family down.

You are suffering from Apathy. You need to get some will power.

It is hard but if you really want to succeed then you will. If you need more mental energy try getting some exercise, it can help your mind too.
Try setting yourself targets - i.e. study for 2 hours before you go out to party or something. The first hurdle is hardest, once you get going it will get easier.
Try to visualise the outcome of your hard work (maybe graduating and your family looking at you proudly) when you are feeling in a lazy mood and it should help you get to it.

It's interesting because I've had a similar issue. Mine was more deep seated than yours seems to be, but the underlying thing is apathy. Yes, you say you really want to do better, but you feel other things are more important like having fun. I've always felt like that and I can get bored easily. This is an issue that's extremely difficult to change because it's rooted deep inside your head (yes, it's only in your head.) It's something you can really only attack by finding a way to make it a little more exciting, and not by waiting till the last minute. Challenge your professors, even if only for a laugh. Join study groups and find ways to make those more interesting. Enjoy that freedom on the weekend, but force yourself to do the work before you go out...or at least most of it. It may prove difficult just to find ways to make it interesting, but once you do it'll be fairly smooth sailing.

You should get tested for ADD as well as do some research on it. Those are classic symptoms.
I would know, I have it and I have the same symptoms.

There are light medications you can take to help you get more in control and beat the "bordom" symtoms (those are the worst).

I took medication for about a year so I could recognize the feeling of "normal" and be able to replicate it without medication.

ADD is completly manageable, but it is best to educate yourself about it so that you can learn to make progress and be more productive.

Good luck.

It's just a procrastinating problem. I get them a lot. You just have to prioritize and figure out what you really want. That way you will be happy. Or you just have to take initiative and do the work. It will work out in the long run. I really don't think your parents will be let down if you don't do to well, your still adjusting. Don't think you are a failure because you procrastinate.

Your problem isn't anything to do with mental health, allow me to be frank you are lazy and ill disciplined. You are bright enough to get through school this way but now it is catching up with you at college. You want to have fun and do little work - until you sort out your priorities and stick to hem you wont change

No self discipline? Not really interested in school?
Set time aside for study a couple of hours a day (ignore it the rest of the time) go to classes.Should solve your problem.

It sounds like you have a procrastination problem. Many colleges offer free tutors and homework help programs. Check it out in your school.

i read some of the other entries and they're all good. most of them are valid. if you want to change, change. if you don't. don't.
some things simply have to work themselves out. for better or for worse.
