For a breed of dog like that you probably have to get special food from the vet clinic.

First there is no such thing as a "teacup" Yokie..it is plain and simple a Yorkie. It is nothing more then a yorkie bred smaller then the standard allows. This is not good and can lead to a lot of health issues..you are experiencing one of many issues that can crop up.

You will need to either feed softened dry food or feed strictly wet food.

The most important rule is to always have food and water available to your puppy at all times AND be sure you actually see them eating OR handfeed them every 3-4 hours during the day....from the time they wake up until the time they go to bed. A high quality food is a MUST ( we recommend the holistic approach of a chicken soup for the pet lovers soul~ puppy formula in dry and canned made with human grade ingredients and no by-products), as well as keeping a tube of Nutra-Cal on hand at all times.

When one of our dogs got a tad chubby we got a diet from the vet. It was rice and some liver or kangaroo meat. Your dog could probably eat that type of diet because you can cut it up yourself. Also, dogs (for short periods of time) can eat cat food. Cat biscuits are reasonably small to fit a small cat. As long as it wasn't a forever decision, if you are stuck it should be safe for Yory to eat it. Cats can't eat dog food because it is too high in fat but dogs can eat cat food because the fat levels are lower.

There are smaller types of dog food out on the market. Just ask at a pet store that you trust. Kibbles and Bits is small but also full of fillers. There should be small food types available. The hard crunchy types of kibble are better for their teeth. The moist dog food tends to give dogs bad breath!!

Don't switch to wet/soft food. It will rot his teeth out unless you plan to brush his teeth every day. My sisters had the same problem with her yorkie so she started crushing it into smaller pieces with a hammer. If you don't want to do that there are dog foods for smaller breeds out there. You just have to look. Science Diet I know makes a few varieties with small pieces.

Try wet dog food that comes in the cans or add water to the dry dog food to make it soft. If that doesn't work you should ask your vet about what you should feed him.

Better than any dog food you can buy at the store, is fresh, homemade food. If you have the time and care enough, you can feed your dog fresh meat and vegetables. ground beef is good, as well as chicken if you cook it well and don't add grease.
