I don't know if you mean by controlled experiment or by real natural world. The slick would naturally be on the surface, and is sticky in nature. I guess some means of skimming would do the job, along with taking advantage of crude oil's density and adhesiveness for seperation.

The most effective way that I know of is human hair. Human hair will attach to oil, but not absorb it, therefore it can be washed out of the hair and the hair reused.

Off the top of my head I see two options: Burn it off or let it
evaporate. There are probably others, but, like I said, these are
off the top of my head.
