If you want to make a 6"x8" high quality print, plan on 300 pixels per inch (ppi). So:

6" x 300 ppi = 1800 pixels high
8" x 300 ppi = 2400 pixels wide

1800 x 2400 = 4,320,000 pixels
(or 4.3 Megapixels)

Some printers can do quite well on 200 ppi, so you might be able to get away with 1.9 MP.

Good Luck

Depends on what resolution it was printed at.

72 DPI = 432 x 576 = 248 832 or approx 1/4 of a megapixel

200 DPI = 1200 x 1600 = 2 000 000 or 2 megapixels

300 DPI = 1800 x 2400 = 4 320 000 or 4.3 megapixels

That really depends on the resolution of your computer screen. It could be anything, but on my 17" monitor screen, it's 81x 81 dots per inch. I found this out by making a blank canvas on window's paint, and clicking on image, and then attributes. this would make 486 X 324 pixels, or 157,464 pixels squared.
