Depends on the state, however, if the accident were only 3-4 months ago, you are still within the time to pursue the matter. Most states give you 2 years.

oh honey, you messed up. you are probably going to have to pay it out of pocket. the first thing that you are going to want to do it file a police report.... it may not mean anything because it was so long ago. from the sounds of it, you really don't remember when it happened anyway. if she didn't give you a policy number, then there is a possibility that it is bunk info. i'd go ahead and give the girl a call, "hey, i finally got that quote done, i just need your insurance information right now so that i can go ahead and get the claim filed." if she tries to give you a hard time, tell her that you filed a police report that day and you have a case number, and because it was a rear-ending, she is the responsible party.
her insurance company could still deny the claim (possibly) because you've waited so long to file the claim and there could be more damage to the rear of your car that they could conclude irrelevant to her accident.
call her. the worse that can happen is that she can ignore you or try to deny the whole thing. you can file it with your insurance if you want to. but your premium goes up an average of three years at a substantial rate. or, you can pay $800 cash to get it fixed..... and know what to do if this situation ever happens again.
it does not matter how big of a hurry you are in. if you are in an accident, people will understand. call them.... "i am going to be late. i was in a car accident, but i need to wait for the police to arrive so that i can file a report." people are very understanding of things that happen beyond your control. take you camera phone and take pictures of your car, and of the person's car. make sure you get a pic of their tags, too. write down all info: name, address, insurance agent, insurance provider, policy number. if they don't know who their agent is, then they are probably lying. everyone knows their agents' names!
good luck, i hope it all gets fixed. just remember the right thing to do next time. this chick probably got away with hitting you without any reprecussions.

You could still file but since no cops were involved if the insurance company gets ahold of her and she says that your the one that hit her and you have no wittnesses your pretty much screwed. They will tell you that it is her word against yours so they can not do anything about it. You should have filed at least a police report after it happened. Now you will more then likely have to pay for the damage yourself or have your insurance pay for it but it means that your insurance will go up if they can not get her on it.

You need to report it as soon as possible. Normally within 24 hours -- at least that's what my policy says.
The insurance company may balk at the claim since you have delayed, especially if there has been deterioration since the accident such as rust, etc. If there is any, they will deduct for it.
Go ahead and file; you never know until you try.

Lets put it this way. If you take the person to court, would the judge believe your story. All the person has to say "I didn't do it", how are you going to prove it. Because you were so much in a hurry then, who would believe now. Sorry but you put the repair cost on yourself and no one else...Your in a hurry now. Why? Because you didn't state in your question the reason you were in a hurry then. You didn't give us all the facts, so why would I believe you. Look at it this way, "its another lesson in life".

Sorry, but you can't wait that long on stuff like that. They'll probably give you a week to claim it, two tops. I hope you didn't have a nice new car.
