They maybe are seeing tiny particles in the air that you may not be able to see. Also they may not be looking at anything they may be smelling something. that you cannot smell , Cats and dogs are way more sensitive than we will ever be

"Animals can sense some
things that we cant. For example, just before earthquakes or some other natural disasters; animals are known to behave in a strange manner. some pets run away from home, become over excited and start running around the house, barking, etc.. Even in the case of
the recent Tsunami, very few animals were killed. They sensed it was coming and head for high ground. How did they sense it? Is not yet understood. Some animals can even sense the earth's magnetic field, they use it to migrate and also to trace theirway back home. Dogs have been known to bark loudly at night looking into thin air, it's still not known clearly as to what they can see that we cant."

It is possible that your cats are seeing dust particles in the air but it is also possible that they are seeing something, like a Spirit. Animals, especially cats, have been linked to the supernatural throughout history. For example, in Ancient Egypt, Cat's were known as the gardianus of the underworld (the after life). As an owner of 4 cats myself, I can personally say that what you have described (and more) has occurred in my household. In these moments there was definitely something going on and I don't think it was dust in the air.

Believe me there is something there!

The only things I have seen my cats track are ants and a gopher that dug through my garden underground. It was very funny - the ants were really overwhelming and they would just stare and watch the line of them move across the kitchen floor. Same with the gopher's path through the garden.

And one time I told the neighbors there was something up in the tree close to the fence as my cats would spend a lot of time just staring up at it. They found a nest of roof rats in that tree. Cats make good pest control agents!

I am an animal officer, and coming from my stand point and also a vets. stand point. They are doing/having 1 of 3 things. First is the one that we see the most. Heat stroke. If it is cold were you live then it isn't that or if it is warm/hot were you live. Try keeping them cool. If that doesn't work or doesn't apply to you go to your vet. They might be having a brain tumor or cancer, Not to scare you or have a tick. Try bring them to your vet. The last thing is the one no one knows what it is, but they can faint. This is a medical condition that you must ask you doctor to preform a test to see. So we all say to take them to the vet. If you have any more questions fell free to email me at s_sapkosky@yahoo.com .

Since it is all of your cats (4) then I don’t think you need to take them to the vet. If it was just one of them then yes it would be a reason to see a vet. Cats are rumored to see ghosts ECT. Make a joke of it with your friends…when they do it keep track on what they are “looking” at. Ex: your mother’s photo, your aunt’s vase ECT. If it is always the same thing then it might be the person that is associated with that item.

My cats do the same thing and I have heard the myth that they do it because they are seeing a spiritual presence. It's funny to watch them just stare up into the air without seeing what they see, but I wouldn't put too much effort into worrying over it. Just 'normal' cat behavior, LOL!

A knat? Or a larger piece of dust caught in the light just right for them to see?

There is something there--- probably a small bug or spider. My cats do that too- they just have far better vision than us humans.

It could be dust, knats, little flies, small spiders, any thing they do have very good eyesite.

Some people think it is because you or them are being visited by ghosts or specters.
