well i am a teenager who also smokes marijuana, i dont however let it control my life, in this kind of situation i strongly feel a parent cant really stop the kid, this is one of those situations hes gonna have to learn on his own, if hes 16, maybe he'll get sick of it and stop doing it as much, on the other hand, it may lead him to more dangerous drugs, but as far as the marijuana ruining his life, i dont want to be ignorant but i really dont consider it a drug, its rather harmless. but i wish you the bst of luck and your son

marijuana is not ruining his life, its his lifestyle that is ruining him.

marijuana is a harmless drug, more so than tobacco or alcohol.

I agree, no father wants their son "doing drugs" but marijuana is not "doing drugs"

it is a bad habit, its unhealthy, and its a waste of money. he's 16, and every 16 yr old at least tries pot once or twice.

if smoking some weed is the worst thing he's doing at 16, you sir, are a lucky man.

but its the lifestyle that surrounds pot that can corrupt a young mind more than anything. it is glorified in almost every genre of music, television, etc. there is no escaping it. if he makes smoking his only hobby, then it is a problem, but if he's still doing everything else the same, i wouldn't worry too much.

Its something he is going to have to learn for himself, that its just a waste, and that he is only hurting himself, and not accomplishing much of anything.

punishment tends to make this situation MUCH worse, because teens then use self-degradation and corruption as a way to punish YOU.

its probably just a phase, but keep an eye out. if there every anything other than pot in him, go ahead and beat the living crap out of him, and maybe take him for a ride down to the precinct, walk him up to the door, and if hes not pissing his pants by then, he may be a lost cause.

Wow That's a million dollar question, I'm sure a bunch of parents would love the correct answer to this one .. Great Question. Un fortunately, I'm like the rest of the disgusted parents. I've tried just about everything. You can pretty much name it and I did it. From going after the seller to searching down rooms, ripping of polo's , Grounding, taking things away, and I even mean driving privileges, of course a few things worked for a while but nothing lasted. This is a wide spread drug, its just to bad the kids and adult users of this illegal drug, do not thinks it''s harmful.. So many of yout son's friends PARENTS are regular users, thats what hurts the most .. You don't know because that's the best kept secret .. These parents smoke with their kids and yours . My kids are older now and tell me who all the parent's that used were, of course I knew who some where at the time and I would not allow my kids at their houses, or should I say, they had to sneak there..The best advice I can give you is to have the most open communications as possible, try to be aware of your sons activities, I know its a terrible age, but you are the parent, You can only do your best, at least you will know you gave it your all.. For me I fought the fight - My grown kids are not perfect, but they are all very respectful of my actions from their early years , and they are all and I mean all Hard Working , Tax Paying Citizens, A few laws might be broken every now and then, but for the most part everything has worked out fine,, I have to give myself credit for being on my toes at all times, and trying everything I could to keep my kids from ending up with fried brains.. The Best Of Luck To You..

Nope...sorry. Have you talked to him about it? I smoke it myself so I'm not sure. I always think communication is key in things like this. Good luck.

Don't listen to these fools about drug rehab...you will have an angry, marked son and Marijuana is NOT addicting so you will be wasting your money... Seriously, they are total freaks that don't know anything. Rehab is NOT the answer because you son will resent you.

Oh and to the other fools that say call the police...where I live they don't care unless it's something harder like speed, coke, X...

Talk to your son...do not follow the advice of the idiots on here...Talking and reasoning with him is the only way.

Statistically speaking, your son is at least 50 times as likely to wind up dying from alcohol or tobacco than from any illegal drug.

I know literally thousands of people who started smoking pot in their teens. They turned out like everyone else. Marijuana didn't ruin their lives. Getting busted for marijuana ruined a few lives, but the marijuana itself didn't.

You could start by doing a little reading on the subject. You are going to go nowhere unless you know what you are talking about. Don't believe the government sites, either. They have had an openly stated Reefer Madness campaign going on for decades.

Here are some good places to start reading:

Well, if I were you I'd ask him why he's still doing it. Have a heart to heart with him, and instead of telling him to stop, find out why he is so interested in it. Find out where he's getting it and if he's getting it from friends in school, you need to go have a talk with their parents.

My Dad is a cop and I can tell you that if your sixteen year old kid gets in a wreck or kills someone, you are going to be held legally responsible. But my Dad also says that Alcohol is worse than Pot and he'd rather deal with a stoner than a drunk anyday. I don't think sticking him in rehab is the answer, but you do need to make him realize that the dangers of smoking pot is just as bad as cigarettes and could arrest his growth since he is going through puberty.

well, i used to smoke that before, my mom didnt know it but i know she would ask people for help, i stopped because i knew it was wrong for me to do it and i realised that i wasnt a kid anymoreand that someday i could get in real trouble cuz of that, just tell ur son the consequences of drugs, tell him how it destroys family how it destroys him, how he will spend money for nothing, kids do it more cuz of acceptence, just to feel cool or something, it was easy for me to leave it, but i dont know how hard it could be for him, there are a lots of reason for which he could be using it appart from just wanting t be accepted by peers, if you want i could talk to him im about his age so i think that someone who has had that experience and is closer to age might help talking it out of him.

Take him to jail because it's illegal anyway. I'm sorry but as a father you have to step in and tell him that you're in chrage till he's 18 then he can ruin his life with drugs. I'm sorry but sometimes the truth hurts.
