Two possible answers:
1. It's your parent's fault. Obviously, he appears loved while you are not. You need to either accept what your parents do for you (which is obviously not equal) or talk to them about how you feel.
2. It's your fault. You can't see the forest for the trees, and you can't see all the things that your parents do for you, only what they do for him. In this case, try to take a step back and be objective about the things you do and receive.

This is a normal reaction. Now it is time to use that jealousy to spur you into action.
Talk to your parents about the disparity in "stuff" see what they have to say about it.
They will not just supplement you with stuff to make it even but maybe your brother can share some of the wealth.
As for the grades - 10% inspiration 90% perspiration - if this is what you want then work for it. Tutoring, planning, discussions with teachers - even asking your brother or parents for help. Work your tail off - you'll learn stuff and feel good about yourself in the process - take advantage of winter break to review and get a jumpstart on next year!
Notice that I got rid of the step - it's time to do that too. How lucky to have gotten a brother later in life - take advantage of it and enjoy a relationship that you may never have had.
Good Luck.

No one, not even your step brother can do all the things that you can do. I have 4 step brothers and sisters, and my dad always tells me all the things they can do and that I could never be like them. And he was RIGHT! I could never be like them, I could be better! So, it's perfectly normal to feel jelous of your step brother, and there really is nothing you can do to not feel jelous except be happy with who YOU are. But another thing you can do is make a list of all your wonderful qualities and hang it on a wall somewhere to remind you how special you are and what makes you unique.

Remember you are 2 DIFFERENT people! I used to feel this way about my sister growing up- she always got more attention, etc... now years down the road I realize I was the one who is better off. Try to be buddies with your step brother. Remember things are not always like they seem on the outside.

I understand what your going through... my step brother didn't even have to try to get good grades.. they just came to him... and even though he was an a**hole at home, he always got more attention at home than everyone else... one way that I chose to change my feelings was pray about it, and just try harder to be a better person!! Good luck!

I feel your pain. It's normal to feel left out when gifts are being given, but not to you . But I'm sure your brother feels you have things he doesn't have. you know his mom is just trying to bond with him since they don't live together.
