Legend has it that this goes back to the days of the Black Plague, when a cough or sneeze was likely the beginning symptom of pneumonic plague, which even with modern medical treatment is still often fatal. In those days, one might as well get right with God, as death was almost sure to be soon.

It started in medieval times. People used to believe that when you sneezed your sins were coming out of your body. So people said bless you because of it.... now it's just habit........ satanists say bless you when you sneeze

it's an old tale that back in the days when people sneezed you letting out your demons or the demons that lived within you so they said bless you

because the heart stops for a second when a person sneezes. they used to believe that the devil was going to snatch your heart. silly huh? that's why i don't say god bless you (besides no belivieving in god)
