It might be easier because you already know each other well and there wouldn't be too much of the awkward getting to know each other phase.
I think it is great because personally I believe your mate should be your best friend eventually anyway.

You run the risk of not working out in a relationship and then also losing the friendship as well. I know they say it is best to be with your best friend, but I think the person you fall in love with becomes your best friend.

Think about it. If you are going to feel romantic and go the distance, maybe even marry, wouldn't you want that person to be your best friend?

Her Ratness, I hate to bust your bubble but its not going to be easy if you do break up. I started dating my best friend of 7 years and we broke up and its hard. When we were dating it was heaven but now its hell. So to answer your question when you are dating its better, but when and if you break up its worse.

Hopefully your romantic other is also you're best friend. If you are asking about best friends getting together.things that started on a friendship basis...I don't know really...it could happen.

my current boyfriend is one of my best friends. I find that it's better because there's no awkward getting to know each other stage. However, if you break up, it will be kind of awkward.
what my boyfriend and I have discussed is that no matter how we break up, we'll do our best to remain friends <3

I would think it would be for worse becasue if you were dating a friend and you broke up he/she might get upset amd you can loose a friendship.
