I have a package to send to the armed forces in Iraq, but the weight of it will cost me a fortune at USPS, or UPS or Fedex. Do you know of any organizations that will ship packages of this nature for you. I have heard that there are some, or even the military will do it, but I need to know who I need to contact regarding it. Thanks for your help

Try going to your army base where you live. I know where I am from and if you have family in Iraq or Afghanastan that they are letting us mail the parcels for free. Try it the best advise I can think of.

The only time I've heard of the military doing it for you is if you have a friend who works on cargo plans headed that way and who will throw it on the plane for you.

My husband was "over there" for a while and I still had to send the packages myself. At first, it was VERY expensive but, then I found out that the USPS has Priority flat rate boxes. The cost is $8.10 for anything you can fit in the box (as long as you can tape down the flaps) regardless of weight. Once I got that figured out, it was much cheaper.

However, you can't just send a package to a service member. You have to have an name and address or they won't deliver it. If you want to send a package to a service member for Christmas and you don't know a name or address, you might try contacting a local recruiter's office and they might have some info on how to do that.
