Hawaii is a beautiful place to live and those of us that have the opportunity are blessed with great weather, beaches and nice people.

The least expensive homes are on Oahu or the Big Island. There are some trade offs with all of the islands. It is paradise, but it isn't perfect.

Oahu is crowded, being the most populous of the islands. During the earthquake the power was off for most of the island for more than a day. There are infrastructure problems in several areas (rocks rolling down hills into peoples' living rooms, problems with sewage disposal, etc.) so you need to chose wisely.

The Big Island offers some bargain real estate, but there is also an active volcano, flooding in some areas and the most seismic activity.

Maui is VERY expensive and a wonderful island. But the infrastucture (water, roads, etc.) are not built for the amount of growth that is occuring. There are outrageous traffic problems.

Kauai is beautiful but IMHO boring - not much to do, but the beach.

Good luck with your choice!

If u are talking about which island, definitely Oahu. The rest of the islands are beautiful, but very boring compared to Oahu. I've lived on Oahu all my life and love it. And if you think of buying here, the best place would be in Honolulu. However, it is very, very expensive. I live on the west side of the island which isn't as pricey as the east and honolulu areas. But overall, everything in Hawaii is expensive. So it's important to do some research if u think about moving to Hawaii.

I was born in Honolulu but I was raised in Kaneohe. I thought Kaneohe was beautiful but of course, I am biased:) However, like Micah says, everything in Hawaii is very expensive. If I could afford it, I would move back in a heartbeat. Who knows, I still might if I save enough;)

I would do that stuff at the bank. The beach sounds like a fun place to buy a house but I prefer to sign paperwork and do that sort of business in an office environment.

I hope this helps.

Aloha,
Dave.
