What does she HATE to do. Wash dishes for her for one month, or rub her feet, etc.

Maybe a handwritten letter telling the person how much they mean to you. If they are not too tainted by the presumption of giving a gift maybe it might be a good start. Also think about a talent you may have (are you artistic) and make something for them out of something you already have at home. Also kids do it sometimes but maybe a coupon book of things you might be able to do for them. Housesit for them for a weekend. Wash their car. Take their dog for a walk (if they have one). You might even include some inspirational quotes or some of his/her favorite sayings to let them know that you really do value them. Try to get some decent paper to print out the coupons on.

I remember a poem we used to say in Sunday school.

What can I give you?
As poor as I am
If I were a shepard
I'd give you a lamb
If I were a wiseman
I'd do my part.
What can I give you?
I know. I'll give you my heart?

Sometime gifts from the heart mean a lot more than just being able to go out a buy something. Anyone can spend money but it takes someone special to give a person time and love.

I've found that the really good friends in our lives enjoy our time much more than our gifts...so give your friend some certificates for your time...i.e. an afternoon of movies together on the DVD player at home, a certificate for you to give your friend a manicure/pedicure, one for you to do her dishes or do his/her least favorite chore, one week's laundry service. These can be for anything you know your friend would appreciate.

Another idea I did for a good friend of mine was print out recipes for different meals/desserts I knew he'd enjoy. I presented them all (with pictures) in a casserole dish I had. He'd pick a recipe each month, and give it to me in the casserole dish. I'd prepare the recipe in the dish and send it back over to his place.

Happy holidays!

The best gift I think a person can give or get is "time." Time spent helping them do something that they can't, or that you wouldn't normally do with them. Time making their life a little easier (e.g. babysitting, or helping out with their family). Time giving a backrub, or just being there. All those things mean something when given freely, just because you love them (using the work love in whatever way appropriate).

Good luck!

I am in the same boat. I just am going to give someone I love a well written homemade card. If it's from the heart you can't put a price on that!!

Write a letter telling him/her all the things you admire and that inspire you in him/her. Make a "coupon book" with a favor you will do any time requested, written on each page in the book.

spending time with that person is a gift in itself, and if they don't think so then you need to reevaluate the situation. I am seeing my best friend Saturday and I haven't seen her since June, so all I want is to hug her.

Offer them coupons redeemable at any time for your service (cleaning their house, tending their garden, cooking dinner for them on a night they are too tired.)
