This guy and girl have been going out for about a year now. In the past they always walk beside each other and sit close at the lunch table. Now they walk farther apart and at lunch sit farther apart. They still hang out in the same group though. Something seems to be different about them but idk. Could they be broken up? I am wondering cause i like the guy.

It means they're drifting apart. Part of the natural process. Just let it be until they're completely broken up, and then go get the guy :-)

Most likely they are separated, you know, broken up, but maybe they decided to stay friends. They may still have feelings for one another.

i dont think they have broken up just have had an argument or getting some space

i'm not sure what that means... see if you can ask one of the guy's close friends? or, if you have the courage, ask him directly. sounds tough, though. good luck!
