It seems nowadays that life-threatening food allergies are spreading all over the place! When I was a kid, food allergies were rare and more of an inconvenience than anything else. Now, they are life-threatening and pervasive to the point where drastic measures are taken. Some schools, for instance, are banning peanut products entirely due to airborne allergies where the allergic one can die just by breathing it in. Or, I know of a day care center/summer camp that will no longer admit children with nut or peanut allergies- period. What's happening, and why?

Well, there are a few reasons why there are more allergies now than back in the day. First of all, not all foods were available back then. Second of all, as technology increases and doctors develop new medications and drugs to help those with fatal allergies, you realize that more people have them. For example, only a little while ago, if a newborn child was allergic to milk then he would just die. Nowadays there are formulas that can take place of the milk. The more steps are taken to help/prevent the allergies, the more you read and see them. Also as a side effect from some new medications, patients develop allergies to those medications! So you end up curing something but also bringing a new allergy to this world! hope this helps but you'll probably become even more aware of this as you go on... especially since you are interested/curious...

The MEDIA has spread a lot of the problem. The allergies hqave been around for quite some time but the law suits and the media have caused most of the recent outbreak of our hearing about it. Our society has used peanuts and cows milk in so many products that we are overexposed to those ingredients and the body eventually has enough. Have a great holiday and JUST TRY to find a good snack without peanuts or milk in it!
