My cat is 7 years old and I noticed for the past couple weeks he has been licking and biting his back right by his tail and now he has lost a lot of fur and getting scabs from biting too hard. Does anyone know why he would be doing this or know any remedies I can use to help stop him?

Hi there,
Have you changed your cats food at all, sometimes they can have an allergic reaction.Cats can also develop allergies to their regular food.I went through same thing with my tabby. He kept losing hair in these scabby spots.Back of neack base of ears.I didnt know what it was and still dont.He wasn't in pain so i didnt take him to the vet.I did make sure he didnt have fleas and I changed his food to Natures variety,The brand with zero grains or gluten.I havent had an episode for three months, cross my fingers.
Good Luck

your cat might be allergic to fleas. My dog was. She bit at her back and ripped out all of her hair. The vet gave her medicine to stop the itching and flea medicine. I'd suggest taking the cat to the vet either way.

Well, it may be flees, or may just be a rash. You must consult with your vet.
