CTR - Choose The Right.
Are you honestly asking this question?
Right as in: good deeds, what the Lord would have us do...
What's wrong with reminding ourselves to choose good???? OOooooo that sounds scary, it must be cult-ish to want to constantly be doing good. We must all be brainwahsed!!! (I hope the sarcasim is being picked up here...)
Give me a break people.
And I wear one, I am 26. My grandpa wore one. My sister who is 20 wears one. It's not just for 7 or 8 year old kids. But sometimes an 8 year old gets one as a gift when they are baptized.

Here is a little History -
In the early 1970s, eight women assigned to a committee by the church coined the idea of the ring. Head of the committee, Noami W. Randall recommended that the church incorporate some kind of “badge of belief” into the doctrinal teachings for the boys and girls of the church. Norma Nichols, also a member of the committee said, “Back then boys didn’t wear necklaces and earrings, so a ring seemed like a good idea.” The idea for the shield seemed a was thought of as to shield its bearers from temptation, and the green background of the shield was used to symbolize the evergreen tree – a tree that stays true to its appearance as the seasons change. Once the design was finalized, Coy Miles – then president of a Salt Lake City jewelry company was contracted to design the actual ring, while Joel Izatt was asked to create the artwork for the teaching materials.
In 1970, Gordon B. Hinckley who was an apostle of the church at the time, officially announced the new “CTR” curriculum in a church-wide conference. It was to be implemented as a part of the doctrine being taught to children ages 6 and 7. As part of the new program, each child of the church was given one of the new CTR rings, taught its symbolic meaning, and also taught how it can help them make the right decisions in life. Since then, the saying “Choose the Right” and its concepts have been taught to all the LDS primary aged children of the church.

Yes, "CTR" stands for "Choose The Right". And yes, it's another way of saying "What Would Jesus Do?".
Some Mormons wear the CTR ring to remind them to do their best and resist temptation.

Just another way of saying "what would Jesus do". There are many Mormons who are not "right wing". In fact, the Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, is a Mormon and very liberal Democrat. Additionally, one of the top leaders in the chuch, President Faust, was a Democratic representative. Mormons are encouraged to vote according to their values and ideals, which does not always mean Republican. Most of my life I have been a Democrat, but have always voted for the better man, regardless of party affiliation, which is how it should be.

It's been around longer, but it's just another way of saying "WWJD". It really does stand for Choose the Right, and does not mean anything nefarious or political.
Edit: I'm 34 and wear one everyday.

Sorry you quit Debra. Hope you find your way back one day. Also don't base your impression about the church on people that you meet, we all have flaws and we all try to be better. May Heavenly Father bless you.
