while the squirt bottle is effective, please be sure you get the cat & not the tree w/ lights on! Electricity & water...not good. We had 13 cats & Daddy took each one by the scruff, got a rolled up newspaper...put them under the tree & turned on the vacuum cleaner and pounded the floor near the cat. Only had to repeat procedure on one cat. they never liked the tree after that. They did like to wave their tails at the lower ornaments so we changed all lower ornaments to papier mache`. No tinsel where they could get it either. Still done to all new cats & dogs too!

I use Hartz Help Stay Off Training Spray (available at grocery stores in the pet aisle) on the bottom branches & tree skirt and they won't get into it. (I don't think they like the smell).
I spray it in the morning before I leave for work & at night before I go to bed & so far this year, I haven't awoke to my tree being on it's side in the middle of the floor. Good Luck!!

I wire the tree to the wall so they can't knock it over, I only decorate the top half so I'm not stepping on broken ornaments, and before I decorate it I spray the entire tree (it's fake) with soapy water so they won't chew on it.
I just have to give kudos to the gentlemen who did the newspaper/vacuum thing. That's hysterical and sounds effective.

I don't... he sleeps under the tree, in all the presents, and I just make sure not to have any lights or breakable ornaments on the lower limbs. He's always been an obedient cat though, one hiss (literally, hiss at him), and he stops doing whatever brought on the rebuke, and never does it again.

That is happening with me too . You should make a spray bottle and when it trys to get into the christmas quickly spray it . Trust me it will work . If it worked for me it should work for you .

it happened to me too....he was so mad we wouldn't let him play with my bell on the tree so we bought him a lot of bells and balls to play with.
