I'd recommend Laguna Beach/Newport Beach for yummy restaurants, good shopping, art galleries, good people watching and nice beaches.

santa monica pier and 3rd street, the getty, MOCA, shopping and walking on melrose, old town pasadena, dodger game, little tokyo, koreatown (good food and nightlife), venice beach, barhopping on sunset, citywalk (or not)

other then the answers you've already received, i guess i'd recommend the BEACH?... like ANY beach i guess!
i've lived in southern california my whole life. HATE IT here...
