I met my husband while posting on current events Yahoo message boards in June 2005, and we were married 13 months later and couldn't be happier.
There is a critical advantage to online dating than there is to traditional dating: Too many people get in the sack too quickly. You don't have that option online, so the only way to be together is to communicate your thoughts and feelings. Most importantly, we made it a point from the moment we admitted our mutual attraction for each other of telling each other the good, the bad and the ugly about ourselves and our past to give each other a chance to bail, and fortunately, in our case, it didn't happen.
We took 9 months and one face-to-face meeting in between to find out everything we needed to find out about each other mostly to be sure that we shared the same value system. As a result, are period of adjustment was almost non-existent and we do have a better relationship and a better marriage than most, because we know what to expect of each other and we do indeed share the same values.
Of course, the main point here is the relationship has to be based on fundamental truth, as well as compatibility. Sure, many times our way may fail, but then again, don't you want to be with someone who will accept you unconditionally for who you are?

I have been online for over 20 years now and have met a lot of people that have met someone on line and married. I can't answer about online dating services but I can say that the ones I have talk with have been mostly positive about their services they used. For the ones that got married from online services the success rate is a little higher than average. That is so far.

My husband and I met through an internet personals website. I don't know how "common" it is for people to actually marry someone they meet online, but most of my younger friends have significant others they had met online. I know that there wouldn't be any way on Earth my husband and I could have ever met if it wasn't for the online personals; neither of us likes to socialize with other people, and we are happiest when we stay indoors and attend to our hobbies.

I think it's more common than some think. It's about as likely as meeting someone in church or in a bar now.
I met my husband online. But just like anywhere else, you get your fair share of people who claim to be what they really are not. Unfortunately it is all too easy for someone to lie about their appearance, age, personality, and even sex, so you have to be extremely careful.

A surprising amount of married people nowadays first met online (althought the actual dating and relationship took place in person). Not sure what the exact statistic is - check www.eharmony.com to see how many of their customers have gotten married.

I married my husband after meeting him on a text chat line, which isnt exactly the same, but still isnt the 'normal' meeting place.
My sister met her husband thru CB radio, and its their 25th anniversary next year.

I would think that it is lower than, a "normal" meeting?
I am not being derogatory about online dating, I think that its great.
But you have a extra selection process taking place. Its very possible but I do not think that it is so high.
Possibly it differs amongst the age groups?

My boss met her husband through an online dating service. I don't think that a lot of people do, but if you think this person you met in the one, go for it.
