The OS does not require Java. Some application might.

it's not necessary to run windows but many programs and website are now written in java and will require you to download java to run. It won't hurt your pc. Just download the latest version and be done with it.

Not needed...but ALOT ofwebsites and videos as well as games use Java so if you do not have it you can not enjoy the games etc.
