I went on vacation to Mexico with my parents in November. We went to the Mayan Rivera near Cancun, and it wasn't poor and dirty like some people say. When my parents said we where going to Mexico, I was like OMG wtf are you crazy? But the hotel was actually really nice, and it was like 5 star, and it had fancy restaurants, and a huge pool and beautiful clean beach and tennis courts and stuff like that. And across the street from our resort hotel, there was big mansion neighborhoods with giant gates at the front with like guards and stuff. There was even like a little mall near us, and it had a Starbucks, McDonald's and lot's of designer stores.

I don't get why everyone says Mexico is so bad? It's actually very nice, and the people seem rich not poor.

Of course, you went to a tourist trap. Get out into the Mexican countryside, go to Mexico City, places where the common Mexican lives. You'll find poverty, people using the streets as a bathroom, people starving, people living in huts that are little more than a few boards nailed together. Go back and see the REAL Mexico. For your next vacation - try the USA - there are plenty of places here which are much better and you won't be pumping your money into Mexico.

That's because you went to Cancun and stayed at the finest hotels. They clean up Cancun nicely because it's a tourist hotspot. Did you know that some central and south American cities will "dispose" of their poor because it looks bad? Mexico does have it's beautiful jewels, and they are not all in coastal party cities. Nor does a few beautiful cities mean all the citizens are wealthy. Many are not. Go to a less touristy place sometime, and you will see people who have no plumbing, running water, or even doors/windows on their homes.

You are one of THOSE people who thinks Mexico is just a tourist destinations with out actually going anywhere else in Mexico. Maybe you should explore next time you find yourself in Mexico but if you do you might be frightened by what us other Americans have seen. Get a life and stop buying into the tourist draw. You will see corruption and poverty if you open your eyes and look every where else instead of where you've been and by what you've said you haven't really been to Mexico or SEEN it.

Going to a vacation spot in Mexico doesn't show you what it is really like. Visit a border town and you will get a better understanding. There are good and bad places for almost every country. Visiting Cancun is not going to give you a full view of Mexico.

First, I don't think the other answers to your question are appropriate. Many people do not realize how the rest of Mexico is and so it was a fair question from someone who does not realize. In answer to the question, even if the entire country looked amazing, the problem is money. People come to the US from South America because of it's economy and the opportunity to make money. Your average Mexican could not afford any of the stuff you mention where you stayed.

In the united stated we have three classes. first, middle, and a lower class. You are in the first class. the middle class would be what most people are. The lowest class is well, the poorest. In Mexico there is really only two classes, the rich people and the poor workers. Most of mexico is poor. yes its beautiful if you can afford it. Most live in shacks. Ive been to the Riviera Mayan which is what you probably mean, and it is a great place.

Wages are much less in Mexico than in the U.S. Although you saw the nice tourist areas, it does not mean that everyone lives that well. Away from the hotels and beach clubs live a lot of people in poverty, in tiny shacks in places with no jobs at all. Mexicans come to the U.S. to make enough money so their families won't starve. Just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Maybe you should go to another part of Mexico DUMB BLONDE.
Are you some sort of stupid? That was only a portion of Mexico. If everyone lived in mansions with live security and fences, WHY WOULD THEY LEAVE?!! Use your head. Mexico is not all rich and fancy. Educate yourself sometime. Or go live there.

Oh my God! You cannot be that naive! Of course the area you stayed in was super nice- they cater to tourists and have a string economy because of their location. You are correct that Mexico is a beautiful country - in parts. But to get an accurate view , next time take a drive and make sure to pass through areas like Matamores or Tijuana. Not so pretty my spoiled little friend.

You went to a "resort", and paid something to have it nice and easy. Go to a border town, go to the outskirts of a city and see how they live and how it is. Now the way other people make it in other places than a resort, is with money. Mexico does not care about anything but money. You have money there you can rule, until you run or of money and then you are ruled.
