I'm semi-retired (old enough to know better) & I have other things that I need to do. I cut back on watching TV so I would have more time for housework & then I ended up being on the computer way more than I watched TV! I need to move around, not sitting for so long. My husband is no help -- he's on his computer more than I am on mine! Thanks.

At one point I got into a role playing game called Everquest, also known as Evercrack. My record was 14 straight hours! I waas almost 50 years old at the time!!! Suddenly almost 2 yeras of my life went by and I had done nothing but play around on the puter!

You can sit at the computer for hours and really feel like you are doing something. Ya even get tired! But really you are not doing anything! You aren't accomplishing anything. Keep in mind that there are reasons they call it all virtual. NOT REAL.

It is fantastic to talk to people from all over the country, and all over the world. But you woldn';t spend 4 hours talking to your neighbor every day would you? No reason to spend 4 hours on the puter either. Same thing. Put the computer in the proper prespective, it is a form of socializing and a form of recreation. You will have oto use the same will power that keeps us form spending all day talking on the phone or reading a good book.

You can do it! (We need a 12 step computer program.) :)

We often use our microwave as a timer. Set the power on 0 and then the time. When you hear the ringer, that is the time to sign off.
Try several short sessions. Reward yourself for staying on schedule with a treat such as a movie, walk or other enjoyable event. I don't suggest extra computer time as that is what we are working with. Good luck and you can do it.

Limit yourself to only the necessary sites, like email, research etc. on week days. if you have some kind of account with myspace, or facebook..anything like that, only go on during the weekend. Also dont shop online, if you must shop go to the mall..which involves moving. :) and dont come on here everyday. Big waste of time. Now that ive given you advise ive realized ive been sitting here for half an hour..so im going to go take a run to fight the addiction.

Practice Mindfulness Meditation (very similiar to the mindfulness of breathing) 10 min. a day.
This erradicates addictions of all sorts: whether to the computer, video games, TV., alcohol, drugs, smoking. It has been proven to work by Doctors and Scientists throughout the world.
Kabat-Zinn PhD. being one of those doctors. He has an excellent book out called "Coming to
Our Senses !!" by: Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD.
It is easy to learn. It also increases a person's cognitive thinking skills, improves memory and concentration, improves a person's motivation and will-power, and erradicates anger, impatience, and slothfulness, producing Patience, determination, and self-control.
This all has already been proven to be true and very effective by Scientists and Doctors all around the world.

You asked an Excellent Question.
Happy Holidays to You and to your family.
