Ring them up and ask if it can be collected through your tax code from April 2007. If you are still on PAYE this shouldn't be a problem. You have until the 30 December to do this.

If you are on PA YE the tax are collected trough the year and you are already charged for it in advance but if at the same financial year which starts at 5 Apr to 6 Apr next you had changed your job and you earn more than you have been charged u have to pay.To double check this ask a copy f your p46 form if you filled one when u start this job and check the code used in the pa ye if mistake is made there urge your employer to pay for it or report to Customs .But Do it Sooner as penalty follows .Good luck

If you are still on PAYE ask the tax office to adjust your tax code. You will still have to pay but over the next year instead of all at once

Hi,
If you have consistently paid the tax-man via PAYE, then no worries.
Get in touch with them, and inform them of yet another ****-up in their system.
Your ex-employer is obliged to show all taxation records to yourself and the Inland Revenue.
If all is OK, you owe nothing. Do not pay a penny until it goes through that loop. At no cost to yourself.
Cheers,
Bob

only thing you can do is pay it, because legally you owe it. you could ask them to investigate ex employer, who might get a fine if you're really lucky, or you could ask about having next years paye code adjusted to allow them to reclaim it so you pay it back little by little

No, unfortunately not.
The same thing happened to me 15 years ago, my first proper job.
I'd started working there whilst at college and was taken on full time when I finished.
They never informed the tax office and I got lumbered with a hefty bill.
They took it out of my wages a bit each week.
