I have recently moved into an old house with hardwood floors throughout - the only problem is that they are so old that they really should be refinished, but I am not about to start that right now. Does anyone know of a product that will at least make them shine? I have tried "Mop Magic" for hardwood floors - doesn't do it - and I have tried other products that say they clean and shine and still no shine. Any suggestions other than the big job of refinishing? I'll try anything!!

sorry Pegi....it's an area rug or re-finishing. There are water-based clear finishes that will make it glossy again. If you are going to sand and re-finish later, then this might be something to consifer. One coat will 'get you by' for now.

for a temp fix...clean very well with murphy's oil soap and wax and then buff with a polisher (paste wax, and a small light weight buffing machine),
but you will have to bite the bullet and hire someone to refinish them sooner or later, and the sooner the better, really...but plan on being on an extended vacation with your stuff and furnishings in storage for the duration of the process...i know: expensive as the dickens...but the headaches of doing it any other way is way more expensive. i have been there and done that so-o-o-o-o many times ...

We had old hardwood flooring. And the only way to make them look shiny and refinshed is to refinish them.
