Alexandra will need counseling to help overcome the behavior she has learned from her abusive parents, there is no doubt about that. My niece has had to go through extensive counseling for similar reasons - she came to her grandmother at 5 years old knowing how to pole dance AND about sex from foreplay to the end, but no clue about how to properly behave in a social situation (and abnormal even for a 5 year old). She has improved by leaps and bounds, and I think Alexandra will do just as well, but it's going to take a commitment from everyone to bring her up to speed. Good luck!

If there is a serious concern about abuse you and your aunt lawyer have no choice but to report your concerns to the local child welfare office. If you do not and it comes out later that you knew she was being abused YOU can and will be prosecuted. Forget about the adoption question at this time, you first need to insure she is safe from harm. If your concerns turn out to be legitimate the court would then consider where she might best be placed until and unless her parents get their act together.

First of all, if this child is being abused, it needs to be reported. A child such as Alexandra, would 'react' fine after an adjustment period. the attention she gets from her own mother is negative, and the love she would get from someone who truly loves and adores her will help her see the positive side of life.
