I'm going to buy my girlfriend a surprise trip away for Christmas.
We're not going to go at Christmas though, we'll be going to Barcelona in late February. My principle reason for going to Barcelona is to attend the Liverpool vs Barcelona Chapmpions League game.
I'm not planning to tell my girlfriend this until we get there, she'd go crazy and probably refuse to go otherwise. I'm sure once we're there however she'll warm to the idea. Her being a Man U fan and all......
is this harsh of me?

Your question should read 'I'm going to buy myself a trip for Christmas'. Your motives are not very honourable. You have a few days left to go out there and get your girlfriend a Christmas gift that is just for her enjoyment. SCROOGE

Sorry guy but this is one of the reasons the rest of us are always under a magnifying glass.
If your girlfriend needs to be deceived this way, you could come home from Spain speaking three octaves higher. And I wouldn't blame her a bit.

You should tell your girl the truth straight away....she's getting a free trip to barcelona...she cant exactly complain about it!!!
If she does complain...tell her that you will do something she wants to do while your there....(i.e shopping!!!!)

hmm if it were me id dump you then buy a ticket home so i dont think this is a wise idea.you are pushing her into a corner which is really nasty...are there things that you wont do with her?? if so try to compromise.!! talk to her ..talking can fix most things.
