I am about to fly with my little dog, in the cabin, for the first time. Any tips on making this an easy flight for him? Thank you

People fly all the time with their pets. Most people don't have to drug their dogs. You cannot take them out of the kennel. If you do, make sure they are under a blanket where no one can see them and hold them on your lap. Try to sit in the very back of the plane if you do this. I also recommend taking some doggie treats. Those are allowed on the plane. Good luck.

Be sure that you have booked this with the airline as only a certain number of pets are allowed on a given flight.

Keep a collar on him while he's inside the carrier inside the airport and have the leash readily accessable. You'll have to put the carrier through the x-ray machine and remove him from it to carry him through the metal detector. By having the leash ready to go, you lessen the chance of him escaping.

Don't give him any food 12 hours before the flight and no water 8-12 hours before. This will help to prevent accidents.

Try to fly a direct flight. Having to change planes can be a pain when traveling with a pet.

Medication should be avoided unless you know that your dog will freak out.

Have all the proper veterinary health certificates accessable in case someone asks for them.

Once the fasten seat belts sign is off, you can set his carrier in your lap, You may be able to open it slightly to pet him, but you will probably not be allowed to remove him from the carrier - especially if you are in coach or economy.

Get a window seat. An aisle will have too many people trapsing by, which may aggrevate him.

Carry one day's worth of dry food for him in case your luggage is delayed or lost.

Good luck and have a safe trip! : )

Try to make it as un-stressfull for him as possible. Take him/her on a nice long walk before leaving to go to the airport (about a 45 minute walk) This way he/she will be tired and calm and less stressed and able to sleep during the flight. Also bring a blanket to cover his/her crate and bring a familiar toy. Also have plenty of water and treats for your pup. You guys should do just fine!

You might talk with your vet about a some "happy pills" for your dog just in case.

my little dog. hee hee. ahem anyway, basically, keep the cage he is in on your lap or give him lots of attention. also, things to chew on, food to eat, water to drink, thats it. basically, traveling with a dog is annoying but it must be done. so be tolerant and patient. have fun on your treep!

well, I don't think you should do this from a top bunk due to the height difference between your belly and the prison ceiling is less than 2 feet.
